Neo-colonial practices occurring in contemporary Africa. ![]() The problems of Africa therefore, are rooted in the historical legacies of European/Western social, economic and political activities in Africa beginning with the Atlantic Slave Trade to the However, it is apparent that very few Westerners also are aware of the historical effects and legacies of certain European/Western activities of the recent past which continue to contribute to the current socioeconomic and political crises across Africa. The global picture painted about contemporary Africa therefore, is a grim one casting doubts on the future of the continent within the global community – without Western assistance. ![]() Most Americans and Europeans only know about Africa through their media’s requests for financial, food and clothing assistance to help starving and destitute Africans, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. ![]() Western societies perceive the African continent as a “lost cause” – a continent filled with disease, death, poverty, underdevelopment, wars and refugees, and utter hopelessness.
